This technical visit is free of charge. Number of participants is limited to 40 and applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. Technical visit to Civil Aviation Department (CAD) was successfully held on 18 February 2023. The visit was a fruitful and enlightening experience for Participants to enrich their understanding of the work of CAD and the design of various air traffic control (ATC) systems through presentations, interactive Qs & As and guided tours.
Ir Vincent Wong, Acting Chief Electronics Engineer, first introduced to the participants of CAD organization, various air traffic control facilities, systems and latest projects managed by CAD. Then, Mr Chau Tsun Yip and Mr Jarvis CW Yan presented the IT technologies employed for CAD’s Digital Tower Facilities and ATC systems. There were valuable discussions especially on development of the new ATC Tower for the new North Runway of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). Our members were impressed on how CAD has engaged innovation and technology to manage air traffic while achieving with very high standards in system safety, reliability and availability.
Followed by the introduction, Ir Charles Leung and Ir Ronald Lam led the groups to visit the Control Tower Simulator and Aviation Education Path respectively. Participants had experienced how ATC Officers are trained in an immersive aerodrome environment of the Interim Two-runway System and Three-runway System operations of HKIA. While traveling along the Aviation Education Path, we learnt more about how safety, efficiency, compliance with standards, professionalism, teamwork and sustainable development are achieved in aviation, and the development in the worldwide air transport network.
