The newly formed Innovation & Technology Bureau of the Hong Kong Government outlined several initiatives in late 2015. They are Smart Cities, Healthy Aging, Re-industrialization, to name a few. Are these initiatives connected in some underlying manner？ And how？

This talk uses several global trends as the framework to connect these dots. Specifically, these global trends include: a) population growth and its patterns; b) rising middle class; c) urbanization; d) resource stress & climate changes; and e) new technologies.

Geopolitical issues will not be considered. The audience will gain a picture of where opportunities and concerns are.

Speaker
Dr. Stephen Cheung has over 30 years of experience covering R&D, manufacturing, and business management in university, industry, and semi-government environments in the United States and Hong Kong. He is an author and also an inventor of five US patents in X-ray systems, and currently consultant for the Hong Kong Science Park working in the US. He was senior research associate at a NASA funded space program at Stanford University in the 80s. Between the 1990s and 2000s, he was general manager of the Electronics Division at the Hong Kong Productivity Council. He has over 13 years with two medical equipment firms in the US. In 2013, Dr. Cheung received, on behalf of Accuray Inc., a national award (Tibbetts Award –The Best of Small Business Innovation Research) and the X-ray technology was recognized by the Dept of Homeland Security as one of six breakthrough technologies.
