Competition Theme - Future School 競賽主題 - 未來學校

Aims 

The Competition aims to promote the STEM education in secondary schools and to provide a platform for the students to demonstrate their talents in innovation and technology in the development of STEM applications.

The competitors who receive no awards will be given Certificate of Participation.

Briefing of Competition

A briefing will be held from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm on 8 September 2018 (Saturday).

Application Procedure

Participants has to enroll as a team through the designated Google form (https://goo.gl/dxrtGi) on or before 21 September 2018 (Friday).  Late enrollment will not be accepted. All applications will be subject to acceptance of the organizer. The result of application will be announced on or before 28 September 2018 (Friday).

Training

There are two parts of training which are Training I and II.  Each accepted team is invited to send one representative to attend only one training session for each part of training.  

The first part of training, Training I, will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm on 3, 5, 10, and 12 October 2018 (Wednesdays and Fridays).   The second part of training, Training II, will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm on 19 and 26 October 2018 (Fridays). Training II will not teach new topics, which is intended for revision and question & answer.  The representative can decide whether he/she attends Training II.  It is not encouraged to send a new representative, who did not attend Training I, to attend Training II, because knowledge of topics taught in Training I is expected. 

Assessment Process of Competition

There are two arounds in the Competition – First Round and Final Round.

First Round

Each accepted team of participants is required to submit the VR model and brief report of a future school for First Round Assessment. The brief report should be submitted in PDF format and have no more than 10 pages (including text and diagram) in English or Chinese. The first page of the report should have project title, school name, names of student, and teacher name. The report sections should at least include Introduction, Innovation, Design, Usability and Environmental Friendliness, and Technology. Each submission of work has to reach HKIE-ITD on or before 3 December 2018 (Monday). Detailed submission method will be announced later through our Facebook Page.

The assessment criteria of the First Round competition is as below:
  • Innovation 創意 (30%)
  • Design 設計 (25%)
  • Usability & Environmental Friendliness 易用和環保 (20%)
  • VR Model & Brief Report 模型和簡報 (25%)
The teams shortlisted for attending the Final Round will be informed on or before 8 December 2018 (Saturday).

Final Round

No more than 10 shortlisted teams of competitors will be invited to attend the final round of the competition.  The Final Round will be held from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm on 15 December 2018 (Saturday).  Each team will be given 20 minutes to conduct VR Model demonstration and project presentation, including the question and answer session.  The demonstration and presentation can be conducted in English or Cantonese.  

The assessment criteria of the Final Round competition is as below:

  • VR Model & Presentation 模型和演示 (25%)

Prize Presentation Ceremony

The ceremony will be held at 5:45 pm on the same day of the Final Round, which is 15 December 2018 (Saturday).

Judging Panel

An independent judging panel made up of experts and academia from industry, secondary schools, and tertiary education institutes will decide the winners of the awards. All decisions made by the judging panel and the organizer are final and binding in all matters relating to the awards. The panel and the organizer reserve the right to withhold any or all awards.
